Lamotrigine and high blood pressure

Mon, 08/14/2017 - 10:39
Hi all, I'm new to the forum, and was hoping you might be able to share your experiences with me. I started on Lamotrigine (Lamictal) just over a year ago. Prior to starting the tablets my blood pressure was really good, however within a few months of starting my meds my blood pressure went through the roof. I am convinced it is my tablets that are causing this however it isn't listed as a side effect, has anyone else experienced this? My GP has done investigations and has not been able to identify a cause for the change in my blood pressure, and I am contemplating requesting a change of epilepsy medication to see if it is related. Please share with me if you have had any similar experiences on lamotrigine. Thank you :) Nomi

I have never had high blood pressure now since starting Lamotrigine my blood pressure has gone  from normal 127 over 65 to 155 over 73. So it seems to me this medication does cause it to go up. Since one of the known  side effects is anxiety it certainly is this medication.

Since being on Lamotrigine my blood pressure, which was previously normal at 120/70, has become high. I did cease taking it for a period of time and my blood pressure returned to normal. I am back on it and now my blood pressure is 169/135 and my resting heart rate is around 120. I believe this should be listed as a side effect.
