Ketogenic Diet

I cannot encourage you guys enough to look into the keto diet. Around two months ago I started a very strict version of the diet, entered ketosis about 10 days or so later and have not had a seizure of any kind since May 11. This is a record for me (avg about 5 seizures a week on medication). My meds could not do this alone. Ever. This is the second time in my life that I've tried the keto diet and, having now achieved the state of ketosis, I can say my first attempt was not strict enough and I quit too soon. If I'm being totally honest with you, I have to say the diet is hard and expensive. But the health results I have gained from it have been INCREDIBLE. So I'm going to just write another few paragraphs to give anyone interested an idea. First, the keto diet is a LOW CARB, HIGH FAT diet. It is currently a trend and there are a lot of dieters jumping on it like a bandwagon but the diet was originally invented for us, for people with epilepsy. You will have to drastically, DRASTICALLY cut back your carbs. No bread, no rice, no pasta, NO alcohol, very little fruit, not many veggies, no juices, no milk, no chips, no beans, no BBQ sauces, and so on. That leaves things like eggs, avocados, fish, meats, cheeses, seeds, nuts, butter, ghee, coconut fat, certain UNSWEETENED plant-based milk substitutes like flax milk, unseasoned pork rinds and others. I eat around 20 g carbohydrates per day on average to give you an idea. The diet is strict. You basically can't go out to restaurants or eat at potlucks or drink alcohol. You can't eat candy or drink juice. I miss apples so much. But I don't miss seizures. Since being in ketosis, I've had the best sleep of my life, no night seizures and I dream EVERY NIGHT now. I have incredible mental clarity now and have lost 10 lbs as a bonus side effect. My depression has even begun reversing course. I can't state enough how life-changing this has been. I feel like I've discovered a gold mine. So please give it a thought, guys. If you have tried it and don't think it worked, ask yourself honestly if you were strict enough on it. Did you give it enough time? I would say that a true try will be at least one month. If you've never tried it, please consider it and if you decide to try it, do it right. Be as strict as possible on it for one month. Absolutely no cheat meals or snacks. Give it one month and go into it knowing it's going to suck at first. The transition into ketosis, especially. If you get to that stage, then you know you're actually doing it right and it passes, but you've got to hang in there and do it right to see if it could help your life. I think it's worth a try. *And this comes with the disclaimer that you should consult your health care professional first and all that.
