Every state has vocational

Every state has vocational rehabilitation services. It’s mandated by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. If you simply search “Vocational Rehabilitation + the state that you live in” you will likely find the website. Some states have a separate entity for those who are also legally blind. Here’s the info for VR in Louisiana http://www.laworks.net/WorkforceDev/LRS/LRS_Rehabilitation.asp

Indiana has assistance a bit

Submitted by Frank Lee on Mon, 2019-12-02 - 18:08
Indiana has assistance a bit above rehabilitation. They include: view all careers, careers by location, join talent community, Louisiana will end assistance with:
  • Evaluation of rehabilitation potential
  • Restoration (physical/mental)
  • Vocational and other training services
  • Rehabilitation technology, including assistive technology services, assistive technology devices, and rehabilitation engineering
  • Occupational tools and equipment
  • Job Placement into suitable employment
  • Maintenance to cover additional costs incurred during the period of vocational rehabilitation
  • Personal Assistance services, such as personal care attendant, scribe, reader, and interpreter
  • Transition from School to Work
I was hoping to find more information on companies with open positions or that will train you for them. Please let me know where else I can search.

As I stated in my original

As I stated in my original comment the quality varies from state to state. It also varies from office to office and counselor to counselor. I’ve worked in two states as a VR counselor. Unfortunately, you are basing your opinion off of “marketing” alone based on what you see from two websites. The job of vocational rehabilitation if you are looking for companies with job openings or to be trained in a specific job is to help coordinate that or to fund that if you qualify based on your disability and in some cases financial need. Not all services require financial need, but some do. Please contact your vocational rehabilitation office and discuss what it is that you are looking for. They contract with service providers who have connections with employers. These organizations usually are paid thousands of dollars to place people in jobs at the expense of tax payer dollars, but it would be at no cost to you. I am a private practitioner that charges by the hour for my time. Right now, I know nothing about your strengths, interests or barriers to employment so it would be impossible for me to provide you guidance. Perhaps you could also contact your local epilepsy foundation which also relies on grants and the generosity of others to fund their programs. I wish you the best.
