Dilantin (Phenytoin) Bone Loss and tooth loss...

Wed, 09/14/2011 - 16:02
I am a 32 year old male, I have been on Dilantin (300 mgs daily) for 16 years.  My new neurologist has started decreasing my dosage to get me completely off of it after bone scans showed that I have the hips and bones of a 70 year old woman.  My teeth have also mostly broken away and I'm at the point where I have no back teeth to chew with because of the bone losss Dilantin causes.  Does anyone know of any lawsuits or anything because I am desperately seeking a way to get my teeth replaced.  Dilantin is the cause of this problem and because of my epilepsy I have been disabled and unable to work for quite a while.  I have no way of paying for this myself.  Any help would be appreciated.  If you or anyone you know uses DilantinPhenytoin please consult your physician immediately.  If you've experienced similar results from Dilantin, please let me know and If I find out about any helpful info I'll let you know!  Thanks & Blessings!

I am just learning about this

I am just learning about this!  I am now a 59 year old female.  I did the math and it seems that i was on dilantin from 1974 through 2010!  My teeth started to rot out of my mouth before the turn of the century.  I did not know of the connection.  I just figured it was because i didn't have the money to go to a dentist.I also had to have my right temporal lobe removed in 1998.  I thought that and being epileptic caused the memory loss that i have now!  The inability to sometimes find the word one is looking for!  and many others.I was diagnosed with crohn's disease about 2007.  Having crohn's the new gastro doc did a bone scan and it came out that i have old bones! lol i can't figure out how to spell osteo..... lolHere I not only got a hit from the crohn's in this regard but the Dilantin also had an effect on my body! I believe that there should be a class action suit!  i will be there!  thank you!
