Conscious during grand mal?

Sat, 01/11/2020 - 12:47
Is it possible to be conscious during a grand mal seizures and what does it feel to be conscious during one? I've been researching into it since this is all new to me and I've come across some posts where people have been conscious during them and it seems interesting but terrifying. If any of you have been conscious during one, what does it feel like before, during, and after?

I can't say myself because I

I can't say myself because I've never personally been conscious during mine, but my mom "woke up" during ECT. ECT is electroconvulsive therapy for depression, bipolar, ect. It is basically an induced seizure, and is rarely used now. She had the procedure during the late 90's with success for bipolar, but a loss of short-term memory. My dad had to put notes on the doors to remind her not to go outside because she'd get lost. But she was very happy. I think it lasted 6 months or so.Last year she was so desperate she did it again. The didn't give her enough sedative and she woke up during the procedure, trapped and "paralyzed," she said. That, plus the short-term use of anti-psychotic drugs (or cessation of them) has necessitated her round-the-clock care.

Hi. I've been sort of

Hi. I've been sort of conscious during my latest grand mal seizure. It was terrifying. I could not feel  any part of my body and it felt like I was drowning because I felt my eyes roll back and I could not breathe. I could sense my limbs flailing and hitting solid objects, but could not identify my location. The entire time I was frozen in a two and a half minute struggle for my life and I honestly thought I was going to die. The only thing that kept me sane was that my boyfriend was in the room and I could hear him trying to get help. I could sense when the seizure was fading away, and all there was was this eternal relief that I was going to live this time. My body was completely numb after the seizure for a short amount of time. I could see my boyfriend's face, but i could not say his name. I do not know if I was too tired, or if this was a post ictal thing. When I fully came around, i just started crying. This is not something I would wish on anyone.
