Can your personality change after having Epilepsy?

Sat, 02/01/2020 - 06:33
So I was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy back in 2011, right after graduating High School. After 9 years, I have come to realize that this medical condition has changed me (for the worst). My personality is completely different. I am LITERALLY like a Psychopath. Please don't judge me when I list the symptoms, as I can't control this... Lack of empathy or remorse, aggression, manipulative behavior, "superficial charm" (It's all an act), narcissism, addictive behavior, etc. etc. I also have grand mal seizures too. But it's kinda rare that I have them. I was NOT like this during High School. AT ALL. Can Epilepsy change your personality?

I have a similar situation - temporal lobe epilepsy which I ended up suddenly about 5 years ago and am a totally different person than I was before.  Have the same symptoms you have. Lot of times my wife and kids don't understand what I am talking about or talk nonsense and I get very angry when they don't know what I am talking about. I have seizures everyday and have grand mals at times. I used to be a powerlifter, lost all my strength, however getting back to lifting, talking to fellow lifters, walking every other day seems to help a bit - take off that anger and rage - still have those at times. Not sure if that works for others but walking/working out may relieve some of that stress.

What pills are you on? Some for temporal lobe epilepsy are depressents and known to temporarily change people for the worst. Maybe you need to be put on some new meds.
