Insurance Change!

Mon, 10/01/2007 - 20:24
Our insurance is changing. And has decided that it's generic or nothing. When my mother approached an insurance rep. the lady simply said "well if she has a seizure, just don't tell anyone!" HAHAHA. Riiiiggghhhtt. Has anyone else ever had problems like this? Did you fight it? How? My doctor does not want me to switch to generics. I'm happy on Zonegran, and haven't had a seizure in a while. Any advice?

Yep.

The problem with many generic rx is that the binders are different causing the absorbtion of the drug or its original reactions to be different. To make it even better all the little companies that get involved can use something different so there really is no way to tell exactly what you are getting and from who. I asked about that when I asked when my pharmacy switched my rx to the generic and the price kept going up and down.

Insurance companies can make the appeals process a real headache but its worth every fight. Let us pray that there will be a new choice soon. I'd love to have access to the health care my senator has.

I could go on for DAYS! about insurance companies and there have been times that I have gotten off the phone or received things in the mail where I could see agents sitting back in thier chairs with colleagues laughing at what they did to me.

When I went into disability in 2005 my employer had an insurance company paying for part of it for a year then in mid 2006 I got a letter telling me that Epilepsy in not a disease and unless I was pregnant or had a mental problem (meaning crazy in their thought) that they did not have to pay squat unless I sued them. Now not being able to afford a pickle to eat this did not happen and my employer terminated me by the end of that week. If none of you have seen the movie "Sicko" on DvD this will tell you the truth about med insurance in USA compared to the world and what needs to be done and why I talk about wanting to make the movie or book in my story. Just like the FDA alert did not make the news. If it was about freakin erectile dysfunction it would have been on the Today show for 3 days straight, but not Epilepsy, cause the world is scared and turns away from the unknown. WE WILL MAKE THEM UNDERSTAND AN UNAFRAID AS WE WERE COERCED BY LOVE OF GOD TO, SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS REASON!!!!!

I hope this is true I give all of you my faith and prayers. Good luck.

Your insurance cannot force a doctor to give or you to take a generic when the doctor prescribes a brand name.  Some drugs don't come in generic.  The doctor must stand firm in his choice of the brand name.  Be prepared to fight.  I do not know what state you are in, but it might be a viable option to look at different places to get your scrip filled.  Also, you might want to contact you state insurance board and find out the real laws behind generic versus brand name prescriptions and not depend on the insurance company to tell you the truth.  Best of luck to you.
