MRI Results
Tue, 06/27/2017 - 08:46I know I should not even look into it until my Dr. gets back to me, but I worry a lot so I was just wanted to see if anyone would know what the findings mean, so I don't have to wait until his office calls.
FINDINGS: There is pansinus mucosal thickening, most pronounced within the maxillary
and sphenoid sinuses. No fluid levels. The mastoids and middle ear clefts show no
significant abnormal signal.
The ventricles, basal cisterns, and sulci are mildly prominent for age. No midline shift or
mass effect. No intracranial mass, hemorrhage, or extraaxial fluid collections. There is a
faint area of increased T2/FLAIR signal within the periventricular white matter adjacent
to the superior surface of the left lateral ventricle with a few scattered small foci in the
juxtacortical white matter bilaterally. These are not specific. No intracranial mass,
hemorrhage, or extraaxial fluid collections. The limbic structures including the amygdala
and hippocampal formations are symmetric in size, shape, and signal intensity.
The flow voids within the large vessels at the base of the brain are grossly normal. No
area of abnormally restricted diffusion on DWI or abnormal signal on GRE is seen to
suggest recent infarct or hemorrhage.
IMPRESSION:
1. A few nonspecific T2/FLAIR deep white matter supratentorial hyperintensities, as
reported above. Differential considerations would include a demyelinating process,
antecedent inflammation, infection, and/or trauma, as well as migraine vasculopathy.
Sequelae of small-vessel ischemia would be unusual in a patient of this age.
2. Mild prominence of the CSF spaces, greater than expected for age. This is not
specific.
3. Pansinus mucosal thickening without fluid levels
