Epilepsy RULED OUT after 1 normal 20 minute EEG

Sat, 03/24/2018 - 10:37
Hello I was diagnosed with Epilepsy at the Epilepsy Clinic in Budapest. I have had Neuro's telling me all different things. To keep a long story short, I have had 2 EEG's. 1 back back with Interictal activity, and the other one was considered normal. Because of this 1 normal EEG the Neurologist I am seeing now has completely ruled out Epilepsy as a diagnosis. Which we all know a lot of the time an EEG on an Epileptic doesn't catch anything. This Neurologist I am seeing now is a Professor, but he doesn't seem to know what he is doing. I am in UK and on the NHS, what is the chance that I will be able to get a second opionion from a different Neurologist. I am based in Lincoln and they said I needed to see someone else so they sent me to Sheffield. I think personally it is nothing short of absurd to rcompletely rule out Epilepsy from 1 normal 20 minute EEG. Perhaps someone can advise me their opinion on the situation and any advice on what I can and should do to see someone else would be greatly appreciated. Benny

1 back back with Interictal

1 back back with Interictal activity, and the other one was considered normal. <<If the second EEG was done and you were taking seizure meds then it shouldn't really be looked at especially if it was a short EEG. The reason for my statement is that seizure medications are designed and created to stop abnormalities. Those Interictal activitys are spikes or waves and are abnormalities.Abnormalities cause electrical impulses to hit wrong in the brain. Those wrong hits cause a chain reaction which is the seizure. If you took seizure meds those abnormalities where stopped and not seen in the EEG. I had 20-25 different EEG's all come back normal. It was a  longer EEG and one I fell asleep in that came back with abnormalities. Which EEG should be looked at? The neurologists saw where they came from and looked closer at the MRI and found scared brain tissue. It is that scar tissue that caused my epilepsy.

You are correct saying that

You are correct saying that the first EEG was before I was on meds and showed interictal activity. The normal EEG was done when I was (and still am) on Epilepsy meds Lamotrigine and Pregabalin. This is something I considered as well. This new Neuorologist doesn't have a clue what he is doing, and is actually a Professor. His letter stated clearly that he has ruled out Eplepsy. To add a bit more to this story I had a different account on here and couldn't get back in. I had an MRI done which 2 or 3 Neuro's stated that I have Hippocampal Sclerosis including from an Epilepsy Clinic abroad. This Professor Neuro I am seeing now states that it is not Hippocampal Sclerosis. I have all the memory problems specifically associated with Hippocampal Sclerosis as well. So I believe he is wrong about everything. I felt something was funny with him.So now he has "ruled out Epilepsy" and sent the letter to my GP office. My questions are:1) Will my diagnosis of Epilepsy which I believe 100% to be correct be taken away on the system? Meaning I lose Disability rights such as free medication, bus passes since I can't drive etc. And be treated as if I am not Epileptic??2) What can I do as far as changing Neuro, I will refuse to see him again due to vote of no confidence. How do I go about this what is the best way? What can I do if he refuses to refer me to someone else?Thank you for your Reply Joe, if you are not from UK this may be difficult for you to reply with an answer and or opinion.Thank you Benny

Also the Professor made

Also the Professor made mistakes on his letter, stating that I am having frequent attacks, he obviously didn't listen to anything I said because I stated very clearly numerous times that the only "attacks" I have been having regularly is emotional outbursts and the occasional start of hallucinations when falling asleep when I am extremely stressed out.So he is including wrong information as well in ruling out my Epilepsy Diagnosis.I am really upset with this how he could he so uninformed to rule out an Epilepsy diagnosis from one normal EEG like you said on medication. I must be able to make a complaint or do something, all I really want is a referral to see someone else.
