Are night “illusions” seizures?

Wed, 01/31/2018 - 13:22
I have had 2 ambulatory and video EEGs done and both were abnormal with focal dysfunction in the temporal lobe but no seizure activity. I have “illusions” (I don’t call them “hallucinations” because I misinterpret stimuli that’s already present) multiple times per night. I will wake up from sleeping with this feeling of strangeness or impending doom. I would describe it as an out of body experience where I’m between dreaming and wakefulness. I know what is happening but I can’t control it. It usually involves seeing a real shadow and thinking it’s the shadow of someone who has broken into my home. It will cause me to get up and turn the lights on to see if someone is actually there. After about a minute, it passes and I go back to bed. I rarely have them when someone is visiting, or I’m at someone else’s house. My neurologist says they sound like seizures but she doesn’t have the proof. Has anyone else experienced something like this with TLE or with focal brain dysfunction? MRI was normal. Thank you!
