Fear of progressive epilepsy with short life span

Fri, 06/01/2018 - 08:24
I'm new to all about epilepsy. I had an EEG today to rule it out, and I'll have the answer within 2 weeks. I'm turning 22 in october, female. No family history of epilepsy. But I'm so scared, and I've developed an anxiety of dying. My symptoms started 3 months ago. I began to experience what my neurologist calls "myoclonic jerks". I get them all day long. When I wake up in the morning, it can take 1/2-1 hour before they start/I notice them. And they sometimes almost stop in the evening. It's mostly in my legs. Just one or both at the same time. But in can occur nearly everywhere. The most scarry ones are those, that involves my whole body. Sometimes I get single pins/needles, which sometimes starts of a jerk. And I feel pretty sensitive to touch. I was told it was just stress. Later, her refered me to an EEG. I was actually happy, it might "just" be epilepsy. But th i learned about all the horrible types of progressive epilepsy. And I'm so affraid I'm going to get dementia and die young. Anyone with experience, who knows about the early symptoms of the progressive types of epilepsy? I'm not sure about the difference between a myoclonic jerk and a myoclonic seizure?

Well for your own sake "Stop putting the cart before the horse". In other words Let the neurologists do their thing and fid out from them first. I have had epilepsy since about 1963-64 and the number of seizures I started with have gone down. It takes time to find the right medication and dosage to stop all seizures. PME is rare and you may not have it. You may have different types which when combined may look like a different syndrome. You see I was diagnosed long before they changes the names of epilepsy and seizures to what they use today.

Thanks for your answer. I

Thanks for your answer. I know the risk is slim, it's just the "what if..". And I really need someone to tell me, it sounds silly. I don't have actual seizures, just the jerks. Not something that mess with my conscience. Hope you're good.
