How do YOU feel after a seizure?

Sat, 04/09/2016 - 12:16
My husband was just diagnosed with focal epilepsy. He took an EEG and there was slight abnormalities with his left frontal lobe which lead to the Dr. diagnosing him. He was driving while he blacked out. He remembers his right arm contracting, yelling, feeling like he had to have a bowel movement, and feeling incredibly hot "like an oven". Some of these symptoms fit with a seizure BUT he woke up feeling great. His exact words were "I woke up feeling refreshed. Like my body reset itself." Has anyone out there felt like this? From what I read you wake up feeling sick. This just doesn't sit well for me as the right diagnosis for him! Please let me know how you feel afterward!

The EEG is a brainwave test

Submitted by just_joe on Sat, 2016-04-09 - 15:40
The EEG is a brainwave test showing the electrical output comming from the brain. If there were no abnormalities shown you would have been told the EEG came back normal. I had 20-25 different EEG's and they all came back normal. I was still having seizures tho. I went thru a battery of tests to find a cause, The last test in a weeks testing was anpther EEG. In which I fell asleep in. That EEG came back with seizure activity (abnormalities, Spikes or waves) by seeing where in my brain they came from they then went back to the MRI of that time period and a closer look at the normal MRI showed scared brain tissue.Which means that my epilepsy is caused by scared brain tissue, That scar was caused by a blow to my head between 6-8 years of age.A seizure is a chain reaction cause by an electrical impulse hitting wrong in the brain causing a chain reaction.. It is that plain and simple.Epilepsy does  not discriminate. Anybody at anytime can get epilepsy.Again the EEG shows electrical impulses from the brain,Think about what the ECG or EKG does for the heart. It to shows electrical impulses, But from the heart. Would you rather have him having a heart disease? There are other heart issues other then heart attacks. Been there done that with epilepsy and A-fib.Medications have been created to stop or control those electrical impulses. I use both. One to reduce the number of seizures the other to keep my heart rate at proper levels. I know they have reduced my seizures from several a week to one every 8-14 days. The time in them has also been shortened from 5-10 minutes to a few seconds. The recovery time (time to get back to normal) has been shortened from 15-45 minets and at times longer to seconds. I can be standing infront of you and talking and you would know nothing about the seizure if I had one. Just because someone gets epilepsy does not mean the world around them stops. They can still do anything they want. They just have to use common sense. Take their medications properly and be like everybody else. They have kept my heart beating at levels needed to keep me from having a stroke or  heart attack. This just doesn't sit well for me as the right diagnosis for him! Is it the diagnosis or the stigma that is associated with it that bothers you?You are no the site that can give you information that can help you learn more about his issue and how to deal with it. It really isn't hard it just takes accepting epilepsy and learning to live and deal with some issues that MAY come up. For all you know he may not have anopther seizure. Or he may stop having them sometime in the future. My cousin also has epilepsy, She hasn't had a seizure in a long time but she takes meds. There are others that have been seizure free soe a period of time and get off meds. I hope this helpsJoe
