Lamictal to Keppra

Fri, 06/26/2015 - 16:35

Ive been having Grand mal seizures since I was 6 years old (I am now 23). I started taking Lamictal when I was 12. I still had seizures while on Lamictal, but between the ages of 19-22 I was completely seizure free. However, about 4 weeks ago I had two seizures in one day. My neurologist helped me decide to switch from Lamictal to Keppra (apparently Keppra is better for women), so for the past 4 weeks I have been slowly increasing my dose of Keppra while staying on the same amount of Lamictal.

I didnt notice very many severe side effects from being on just the Lamictal, but now that I am on both, I can definitely feel it. I am literally EXHAUSTED every day. I get dizzy all the time, and I have found myself to be really irritable, forgetful and sad, which is not me. Im wondering if anyone has been through this before, and if the side effects went away after successfully changing from one medication to the next? I just dont know if it's the Keppra, or the fact that Im on both meds, or what is causing me to feel this way. I hate it, and I just want to get back to being me.

I've been on both Lamictal

I've been on both Lamictal and Keppra. Keppra worked better for controlling my seizure activity. If you are feeling irritable and sad, that is probably the Keppra. When I was on Keppra, it did a lot of things to my mood. It didn't inspire emotion but really INTENSIFIED the ones that I already felt. Keppra also made me sleepy. Lamictal was better with its side effects but I had more seizures.
