Working as 911 dispatcher with seizures

Wed, 02/18/2015 - 10:47

I don't have epilepsy. I have porphyria and seizures, absence seizures. I was going to take a class to be an emergency response dispatcher. I think it would be a good job because I could work during the night without being on my feet. I am okay with stress and handle multitasking well. As long as I am on medication I don't have trouble. Most of my seizures are drug related as people with porphyria have trouble metabolizing most things.

The last job I had working in a bookstore I didn't tell my boss that I had seizures because no one would hire me. It was a problem. Has anyone worked as a dispatcher with seizures?

You would need to read th regulations i the state you live in. There are areas that will not hire people with seizures to work in the 911 field. Especially in the anbulances. As for dispatch I think they still have guidlines as to who can work. So contact the city office you are wanting to work in and varify the information. As for your absence seizures. Absence seizures are seizures and all it takes is 2 seizures to diagnosis epilepsy. As for finding a job,,,,, contact your state employment department. Each state employment department had a person that works to help get handicapped people jobs and or schooling
