dizziness out of the blue

Thu, 12/25/2014 - 20:16

My 17 year old daughter (seizures since she was 8 months old) has been on Keppra for the last 12 years. It's worked well for her...no side effects that we know of. Other meds have always affected her.

Out of the blue, the last couple of late afternoons, she started to feel dizzy. She said it feels like the room is spinning. She feels better after she eats something but it takes hours for her to feel better (usually she goes to bed and wakes up fine.)

Has anyone had any experience with this. She has a partial complex seizure disorder, with acitivity in mostly in her temporal lobe.

Thanks, Lisa

Welcome LisaI am the one with epilepsy. I also have been taking keppra for years. If this had happened to me like it did your daughter I would be calling the neurologist to discuss this issue. Understand as her body changes both physically and hormonialy it can and does effect her medications. The medications levels are now where the neurologist wants them. But if those levels or dosages were set a few years ago she may need her dosages increasxed or decreased. I was diagnosed before they became specialists in epilepsy or any other neurological problem .I can have several different types of seizures. What you posted is kind of like my simple partial seizures which are just a wierd feeling in my head lasting a few seconds. After they happen I am fine with somwe energy loss. Keppra is becomming the go to medication. I know it works because I am taking it. It not only reduced the number of seizures I was having but it also reduced the time in those seizures as well as the time to get back to normal. If your daughter hasn't seen her neurologist in a year then this needs to be brought up. Also know that at times women have seizures during their time of month and yo ucan find posts under women with epilepsy. I hope this helps and she gets the assistance she needs Joe
