Family difference about Surgery

Mon, 11/07/2011 - 01:10

This is my first post. I read alot of others and try to help though:).

I've had seizures since I was 9, 11 years! I've tried almost every medication, I had failed brain surgery in 2007. When they put the grids on to further locate where they were coming from I had a venus infarc,a stroke. I lost all movement of my left leg and arm. I didn't move either until a week later. Over the next week I regained most of my stength. My left leg is still not as strong as my right. I had a VNS put in in 2009. The VNS never helped. I changed doctors this year, and he suggested a Temporal Lobe Resection. I would be awake so the Neurosurgeon could furhter tell how much damage it would do. He would remove the part of the brain where they're coming from. I could have a HUGE weakness after the surgery. My mom, sister, and stepdad support me %100. My older brother and dad do not. They want me to try something else first. Eating healthier, anything besides this.... It won't help. I try to tell them that this is the only thing that could help... the last resort. They don't understand what it feels like to not be in control of youre on body. To have youre 11 year old brother have to take care of you when I don't feel good. I know they're scared and they don't want their son/brother to have brain surgery because of last time. I just don'y know how to convince them that this is what I want!!! Any mothers...fathers...sisters...brothers...who are in the same position?!?
