Spike waves seen in eeg report but normal?

Thu, 08/02/2007 - 03:25
Hi. I've just gone through a MRI, CT scan and eeg. MRI and CT were normal but my eeg report showed spike waves that is commnonly seen in epilepsy. However, the doctors, after much consultation, said that though it looked like epilepsy, I was normal and recommended a follow up in 6 months. Is it possible to spike waves seen in eeg to be normal and not have epilepsy?

Well, from what I understand there are epileptic spikes and spikes that are just regular normal spikes. Epileptic spikes are abnormal, but if you have only had one seizure then you may not have epilepsy. At least that's my understanding anyway. You should ask your doctor theses questions, and if he or she doesn't give you good answers, then seek a second opinion from an epi doctor.
