coming off dilantin-going on lamictal

Tue, 02/06/2007 - 13:36
I'm wondering if anyone else has been in this situation. Right now, my neurologist is changing my meds. I used to take both Depakote and Dilantin. I'm now off the Depakote for about a month and a half. While going off the Depakote, my doctor put me slowly on Lamictal. My neurologist is planning to take me off the Dilantin also. I just got my blood levels. My Dilantin is only at a 4.6 when it should be between 10 and 20. The Lamictal is only at a 2. Both levels are sub-therapeutic. I feel ok, but I haven't had a grand mal seizure in a very long time (about 5 years-i'm very lucky) and I don't want to have another. The petit mal seizures are different though. I have them about once or twice a week (that's when I've noticed them). Has anyone else had sub-therapeutic levels when changing meds? Any answers would be really appreciated. Thanks.
