Is it Meds? or Is it my child?
Wed, 02/15/2006 - 16:22Topic: Living With Epilepsy - Youth
My daughter is 9 years old, she has absent and partial seizures. She is on Lamictal and Depakote.. We are having a tough time in school. She is not motivated, she is very slow at everything she does, even walking.... She really has always been. I don't know if this is the meds. or is this just how she is..I don't know how to motivate her. Mainly because I don't know what's going on! Any suggestions?

Hello K!
A really good place to read on this site is the Researched Articles area. The link is:
http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/research_articles.html
It may have answers to other questions or areas you may need answers to. Hope it helps!

It is possible it is both. Make sure she got plenty of sleep and protein. She needs protein and some good fats. My neice didnt do so well on depakote. She has osteopenia within five years from being on that med. She is only nineteen. Depakote depletes the calcium. She needs calcium and magnesium with vit d. talk with your doctor before taking anything different. Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/
