Ahem! Shooting Silvery Spots - Turned to shooting headaches

Tue, 06/03/2008 - 06:45

16th June: Now I'm getting terrible headaches. SHort shooting pain that totally stops all thought and all actions...it happened 4 times over 3 weeks.

And then yesterday, on top of the first day period pains - I got a normal headache...accompanied by sharp shooting stabs of pain on my eye brows - the same part that hurts really bad after seizures. The shooting/stabbing pain lasts for a few seconds or minutes, makes my eyes water and feels like it takes my breath away and my arms and legs also stiffen up so I have no control. And just as suddenly it goes away leaving a more bearable headache. The combined effect of the cramps and headaches made me wonder if its something else...I was having a tough time realizing after each episode...that my mind was confusing different pains with the partial seizure type of behaviour I exhibited in my pre-adolescent days. I have no clue what was happening last night. And my room mates were simply overwhelmed with my drastic episodes, but they say I was completely conscious of the pain, just unable to respond at the peak of the stabs. WHich is very different from my general seizure pattern. SO I'm hoping that I have no reason to worry.

I noticed that bright sunlight and white tube light brings on the shooting pain. I waited to see what happens today...and though I don't have a headache...the sun light is still making my head hurt. I don't have a history of photosensitive epilepsy or anything though I do tend to get bad headaches if I'm out in the sun without glares.

Right now I'm confused if I should take this issue to my Neurologist or an Ophthalmologist or a GP. Can somebody please respond this time? Its extremely unbearable when the headaches begin. You can tell me if you think I'm panicking unnecessarily. I swear I won't mind. I feel silly ...its been 8 months since the last one...and I might be overreacting.

Hola, I was just wondering, I see dead people, I mean silvery shooting spots moving towards me when I'm real tired, its happened twice or thrice in the past month? Could that be an effect of 1050 mgs of oxetol per day? I've been on it since 2005 with variation in doses. I couldn't help but wonder if its an effect of long term use.

I CANT BELIEVE NO ONE ANSWERED YOU! I AM NOT NORMALY IN THE WOMANS ISSUES BUT I ANSWERED ANOTHER ONE THAT POPPED UP IN THE FRONT PAGE SO HERE I AM.  WHAT YOU ARE DISCRIBING SOUNDS LIKE A MIGRAINE OR CLUSTER HEADACHE. CLUSTER HEADACHES HAPPEN ONLY AROUND AND BEHIND THE EYES

THESE HEADACHES ARE BROUGHT ON BY BRIGHT LIGHT, SIEZURES ALSO BRING ON THE HEADACHES AS WELL AS A HOST OF MANY OTHER THINGS. WHEN YOU HAVE A MIGRAINE YOU GET SEVERE PAIN ON ONE OR BOTH SIDE OF THE HEAD. WITH BOTH TYPES OF HEADACHES, IT IS VERY NORMAL TO SEE SHOOTING SPOTS OF LIGHT BEFORE YOUR EYES WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING. PEOPLE WITH EPILPESY ARE MORE PRONE TO MIGRAINES THAN THE GENERAL PUBLIC. EVEN IF YOU ARENT HAVING ANY OUT WARD SEIZURES IF YOUR BRAIN IS SPIKING ALOT, YOU CAN GET A MIGRAINE. I DONT KNOW IF YOUR BRAIN DOES THAT, MINE IS CONSTANTLY SPIKING, IT NEVER GOES AWAY, SO I DO HAVE THAT PROBLEM WITH MIGRAINES.

YOUR ARMS AND LEGS STIFFENING IS A SEIZURE. WITH ANY SIEZURE ACTIVITY, THEY CAN BE TOTALY DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER. COMPLEX SEIZURES DO MORE STRANGE THINGS TO OUR BODYS THAN ANY OTHER TYPE. IF YOU CANT EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED, ITS A COMPLEX SEIZURE.  I HOPE ALL THIS HELPS.

I finally went and saw my neurologist and he said I have Neuralgic Pains, which is nothing to worry about. He prescribed a 6 week course of 10mg amitryptyline hydrochloride, a very minor dose apparantly. The pill is also called Elawil/ELiwel and is an anti-depressant that they say helps fix neuralgia. The doc says the pains are unrelated to epilepsy, and not to over think about them...relax...take it easy...nothing to worry about...just a tiny bit more mess and confusion to deal with...don't go get swept away by what you read online, its mostly crappy inaccurate information anyways....its all oh so shiny and bright....enjoy the spots coming at you and chill out! So what the hell - another addition to my medical cabinet...why the hell should I worry about that. I mean why worry about wehat goes in your body to heal or damn you. If I must be a chemical junkie...I'd like the fun ones...not crap that puts me to sleep within 15 mins.

I guess everytime I have to go for a check up, before and after - I'm a mess. Anyways. I'm a week into Elawil and a duller pain seems to have replaced the sharper ones. And every one lives happily ever after.

Banffgirl - thanks for answering - I notice you're very active here...pretty much there for everyone...that really says a lot about how well you handle epilepsy :D...thanks again.
