Not sure what my seizures are!

Mon, 05/10/2010 - 20:44
Hey i'm just new on this, really only became a member to try and figure out what is wrong with me! I'm 17 and have been taking seizures about once every 2 weeks for the past 2 years or more, i missed a year of school as i was constantly tired. My neuroligist has said he thinks it may be NEADs, non epileptic attack disorder as he has witnessed a seizure of mine and said it was not epileptic in his eyes but he tried all the pain methods to make me come round and he said i was deeply unconscious. I really don't believe i have non epileptic attack disorder as this means it is pshychological altho im never stressed and i do feel ill before i have a seizure, and everytime an ambulance has been called they have said my blood pressure is very very low. I also suffer from headaches alot, i just want to be diagnosed right so i can get it treated.

Penniness, have you had any diagnostic testing?

As for "NEADs," some seizures that are psychological in origin are called psychogenic seizures. These seizures are most likely triggered by emotional stress or trauma. Some people with epilepsy have psychogenic seizures in addition to their epileptic seizures. It’s a legitimate seizure and should be treated that way, but it is not caused by a problem in the brain.

Then there are physiologic nonepileptic seizures which can be triggered by some sort of change in the brain — typically a change in the supply of blood or oxygen rather than electrical activity.

Get some testing.  And if this guy doesn't believe you, find a doc who will actually listen to you and care about you!    Phylis Feiner Johnson   www.epilepsytalk.com
