Video EEG/ surgery

Sat, 05/14/2016 - 11:32
I have one scheduled on Monday. I wrecked my car in January because I had a black out seizure and my doctor said it was time for surgery. My seizures have gone from small de Javu to me blacking out and saying weird things. I'm just terrified of the idea of going into status. Last grand mal I was in status for 12 hrs and couldn't speak for 3 days after. How safe are these video eegs?

I had a VEEG when I was a teenager. When they took me completely off my meds I had my one and only grand mal. Freaked me out. When I couldn't tell them my name, where I was, etc. I pretty much had a panic attack. They shot something into my IV port that knocked me out and I was fine when I woke up later. As others mentioned, you are monitored through video and your EEG output at ALL times. I usually had someone in my room before I was fully into my seizure. Trust us, they will take care of you. Absolutely discuss it ahead of time. Your doc may be able to ease your fears considerably. It doesn't hurt to have someone, family or friend, stay there with you. I know it helped calm me when my mom was there to soothe me while I went through the seizure and hold my hand when I came out and they asked their questions.Best of luck!
