Seizure while on vacation

Mon, 01/01/2018 - 01:58
Hi All, My 4 year old daughter just had a seizure while we are in Dominican, shes been out in the sun all day and didn't nap, also didn't have a good night sleep the night before. She was taking a little nap then she woke up for new years and rang in the new year, we then went back to the room and Just as she started to fall asleep she started to have her seizure. I was a febril seizure kid and so was my wifes sister so it could be hereditary, my wife and parents are at the hospital with my daughter now and Im in the room with my son, this is very scary for me and I am still shaking, hoping to find some reassurance here. She clenched up and started to shake, my wife immediately started to do CPR and we called the ambulance, by the time the hotel doctor came she had all her faculties back and was shivvering. Does this seem like a normal episode, it seemed all to familiar to my parents, but being on vacation in another country is that much more scary.

So her heart stopped? That’s

So her heart stopped? That’s pretty serious for a seizure, doesn’t sound like a common febrile seizure. And even if it’s a normally benign epilepsy syndrome, something that can stop one’s heart is likely to require medication. I’m so glad you were awake and aware when this occurred. I don’t want to scare you but if this is epilepsy and you have issues with how scary medication sounds, sudden death can occur and should be considered a risk, look up SUDEP.Whatever this is is probably going to take a while to sort out, much of it wherever you reside. Poor or interrupted sleep can cause problems with a variety of conditions, same with overheating and other things many people can get away with. Fun is good but avoid pushing those problematic activities until you know more.

Triggers for a seizure is

Triggers for a seizure is lack of sleep and hot weather.  These two triggers a spike in the brain wave and depending on your seizure threshold can cause a seizure. Recommend you drink lots of water these will cool you internally and put less stress on body.

it could be hereditary    < but it may not be. One doesn't know. There are even people that have had seizures once and never had another one. As for your wife giving her CPA. Did her heart stop beating? Or was it just something she thought might have been an issue? Relax and go with the flow. Being scared does not help you or your daughter since she can tell if something is upsetting you without you saying anything. Look up triggers in the learn section of this site. Also know that there are many other triggers that are not listed.I hope this helps and your daughter gets the assistance she needs and this was the only seizure she has.Joe
