I still blame it on myself

Tue, 08/21/2018 - 00:45
I diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 15 with dreams of going into the Military. With an adolescent mind and believing that I knew better than the doctor, I didn’t take my medications like I was suppose to and my seizures had only grew worse. I had graduated high school with my senior class as well as completing four years of JROTC. College was a struggle while trying to find the right medication and having my license suspended several times. I’m am now a college graduate, have my license, and I am 2 years seizure free.

I wouldn't want you in the military if I was a reciter and found this out and you are driving and then not taking your meds in the past with chance of taking another life and that is putting your life on the line for others.

Dear Allison, I too was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 15.  Although, that was back in 1970 and science was not as well informed regarding epilepsy.  It took 40 years before I knew what kind of epilepsy I even had.  I now know that it is Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and apparently it is hereditary.  I have had more grand mal seizures than I can even count but I can say that I have been seizure free for six years now.  If I would happen to have a break through seizure it would not allow it to depress me.  So, stay positive and seizure free, Mikel
