Faking Seizures

Thu, 02/01/2018 - 17:14
My mother-in-law has seizures every few months were she lays in bed shaking her head arms and legs. then she passes out right after and is still for a few seconds and Then she gasps for air with wide eyes like she woke from a nightmare.over and over all night. She responds to conversations in between her seizures. The next day she says her head and neck are sore and she tells stories about what people were doing and saying during her seizures. She always talks about her condition. She has never injured herself and it always conveniently happens in bed. She claims she has done it for years. I find it fishy.

Sounds pretty incredible, but

Sounds pretty incredible, but also there are similarities that many people with epilepsy experience. You said mother-in-law has these every few months.  Many of us have "cluster seizures' or "seizure clusters" where we go into remission and then have seizures grouped together for a few days and then go quiet again.   After the generalized seizures many of us can have sore muscles, and I'm told the eyes can be very dilated.   Many people with epilepsy also have nocturnal seizures with their events only happening in bed.  The part about her being able to remember what others do and say during the seizures is something I had not heard of before, but everyone is different.  Many of my seizure experiences are quite incredible and I often wish I could share these experiences with someone close to me.  Especially incredible are those occasions where I have been in a half-aware, semi-conscious state.  Your mother-in-law needs someone to talk to.  Is she on any medication for seizures?  I wonder how anti-seizure drugs would change this.

Yes she can be having

Yes she can be having seizures. Research nocturnal epilepsy and nocturnal seizures. Many people do not hurt themselves in these seizures. But then some have bitten their tongues and needed stiches. Others have hit their side tables and needed stiches in their cuts caused by their heads hitting the tables.
