lamotrigine xr vs vimpat

Wed, 05/16/2018 - 16:24
Hi Everyone. i need some feedback on some meds. i'm 27 years old and have grand mal seizures, usually once a year but lately, i have had one a month. i was one Keppra and lamotrigine and switched to zonisamide to lamotrigine xr (the keppra made me crazy) the most current ones i have had were during working out which is insane to me because i was told working out is to help with epilepsy. My neurologist offered me switching lamotrigine to vimpat. apparently, if my hormones are off balance or high that can cause a seizure. However, im on birth control so im not pregnant nor have periods. anyway, i wanted to see what people thought about vimpat. ive been on lamotrigine for almost 8 years now so and i hate to change meds again but i feel like this one could be the culprit. i love zonsiamide so i won't change that one (i tried switching to zonsidamide and topiramate but apparently i would be at high risk for kidney stones) please share your stories with me!

I hated all the meds so after

I hated all the meds so after doing a little research, I started taking two omega 3 twice a day and had my husband do the same who also has seizures and we have had not had any seizures in 3 months. Mine is photosensitive so I do still get triggered with flickering lights but its nothing like it used to be.

I agree with u when u say

I agree with u when u say keppra made you crazyy! i almost killed myself and the people around me, i was just such a mean and angry person, but now i am on vimpat and it is really great, the only side effects i experience are occasional migraines and a hand tremor (not occasioinal, its with me everyday but not every second of everyday) i would recommend you going on vimpat

I was originally on lamictal

I was originally on lamictal but kept having grand mal seizures so my doctor switched me over to vimpat. I've heard a lot of people have great success with it, but for me it made me really sick and I recently had to get off of it. Everyone is different though
