Hi I am in the process of withdrawing keppra and nothing to introduce. I am just curious if there is anyone on this site who has already done been through it and what sort of side effects did they have during the process? All advice welcomed and thanks in advance. Teri

Re: keppra withdrawal

Keppra was not kind to me at all. Almost unhinged me. I went off it cold turkey and onto my previous meds with lots of tut, tutting from everyone. I feel better.

Good morning!  I don't get on

Good morning!  I don't get on this site very often, but wanted to post this information. Last night I took my last Keppra pill. I was on a 4 week plan approved by my neurologist, to replace the Keppra with CDB oil. It has been all good! The past week I was down to taking only 25% of original amount. I went through the process of getting my medical marijuana card here in Florida. It gets a bit complicated because the MM doctor highly recommended that some amount of THC is necessary to make the CBD work well. I am not on facebook, but if anybody wants to discuss it, let me know and maybe we can communicate some other way.Ron

Hi Teri, Firstly do remember

Hi Teri, Firstly do remember that all people might react differently to either taking drugs or coming off of them, my wife Kim had a brain tumour removed successfully but was put on Keppra as a precautionary as  their could have been some interaction with the surgery. She has never had any sort of seizure or convulsive attack or Episode , but after three years of being on Keppra (oxopyrrolidin-1-y Butamide) also known as Levetiracetam, she decided that enough was enough and started a slow withdrawal over six months and has only shown only positive side effects , she did however supplemented herself with a homeopathic replacement (Valerian ) which is a know drug that pacifies, if you are anxious, it has a becalming effect.More importantly you should consult your GP with your intensions and it is a legal requirement to inform the DVLA and they may insist you take a 6 month semester from driving while these changes take place. in case of adverse reactions.Good luck with your intensions.Nick

Hi Teri. I was on 1000mg

Hi Teri. I was on 1000mg Keppra ER daily for seizures. It was awful. I had crazy eczema, daily energy crashes, dizziness and confusion, disturbing anger, pain, pain, pain and weakness, and was never out of a sinus infection (guess what sinus infections can trigger). I began reducing in 250mg increments, holding each level for 3 or more weeks at a time. At the final dosing level, I extended the dosing time by 4 hours each day for five days consecutive just before stopping entirely. At this moment I am beginning my fifth full day without. I've had withdrawal symptoms, but am 99% sure that's what they are, and will continue to stick it out. I'm improving in many ways as well. I still need to add the CBD component as you suggest. Thanks for helping me. I hope I helped you. Best wishes.

Hi Timmy.  Your post was very interesting.  We are in the process of reducing Keppra (originally at 1000mg) and bringing up Depakote for my 17 year old daughter who has myoclonus jerks.  Every 250mg we reduce, we see her become very shaky and unable to stand and then start to get better.  We usually wait for about 2-3 weeks before reducing it further.  What kind of withdrawal symtoms did you experience?

Re: keppra withdrawal

Yes man, I was on Keppra for more than 1 and a half year and it was weened off gradually. I took nothing else after that. I've been seizure free since 8 months now, without any AED. Initially I'd feel sort of mild but sharp headache and a feeling of imbalance. Sometimes palpitations too. But nothing too serious. I kept myself busy all the time so that I wouldn't feel much of the side effects (I always wanted to get rid of Keppra). Stay positive and the whole process becomes easy. But lemme offer you a piece of advice- take sufficient sleep (as much as your body asks for) and stay calm. That will make the process of withdrawl a lot more easier.

Hi currently in the middle of keppra withdrawal and I have a few tips of the trade , this is actually my second withdrawal . I am not a doctor but I have found that Tylenol helps achy muscles before bed . And , you must always remember  that all of this is in your head . I have had moments where I had to just step aside and take a deep breath . One more tip if available it helps greatly to talk about your withdrawal or even keep a journal I have done both .  I am  going from keppra to vimpat

I did it.  I am still in the withdrawal stage. But I so far have been successful.  I have not switched it with anything; but sleep.

I’ve just transitioned off

I’ve just transitioned off Keppra XR (1500mg/daily) on 4/30 after 12 years and on to Briviact. The Keppra had just started causing too much anxiety and sleeplessness. I was told not to expect much in terms of side effects from this transition bc the new drug is so pharmacologically similar to the old. We did the transition in a week for the same reason. Nonetheless, I’ve had tiredness, weakness, an uptick in anxiety, digestive issues, and brain fog/feeling out of it. This was bad the first week while I was transitioning then got better for a few days and now is worse again. I’ve checked in with my doctor who wants to give it some time. Did anyone experience these symptoms going off Keppra? How about going off Keppra and on to Briviact? How long did symptoms last? How did you do on Briviact?

Can anyone explain the

Can anyone explain the withdraw symptoms of going cold Turkey off of 300mgs of keppra. Is this about right, dizziness, blurred vision, body aches and no ability to hold my own weight up firmly. Vomiting. Hot and cold spells. Can anyone explain to me how long this will occur because i have no more meds or re-fills. My insurance is trash only accpted in hospitals

Re: keppra withdrawal

Hi all-

I visited this site to see if anyone has suffered the withdrawals that I seem to be having. I was shocked to see all the posts and thought I would add my experience to all that you guys are sharing. In July I suffered a stroke and at the age of 43 they were a little baffled as to why. I had never suffered from seizures (that we knew of) and I have Lupus. After the stroke I was having some strange symptoms and a neurology interventionist came up with the conclusion that it is seizures also. An EEG in the hospital confirmed seizures, and they immediately put me on 1000 mg of Keppra 2x a day. In the meantime, they tested me for MS with numerous blood tests and a Lumbar Puncture. They recently had me in the hosptial for a mutli-day EEG during which they took me off the Keppra, cold turkey. Apparently I suffered no seizures during my hospital stay and the doctor supervising the EEG went back and looked at my first EEG. He discovered that the EEG Tech had set the machine too sensitive and even if I blinked, it showed as a seizure. Apparently, I had not been having seizures and yet was on such high doses of Keppra. That was a week ago and I was never put back on Keppra and weened. I have been cold turkey for the past week and have suffered quite a bit. I have had migraines, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. I can't even sit in a car or drive it without getting really sick.

I wanted to confirm the side effects that many on here have commented on and I want to know what others would do about this?

Thanks,

Taylormade

Hello, i’ve been on Keppra

Hello, i’ve been on Keppra for 4 years. My doctor feels as though I don’t need it and is increasing another one. I just broke down at work, I tried to stay strong but I was dizzy, almost falling, vomiting, going in and out of reality and just not there? Please please help me. I’m so sick in the stomach, I can’t eat. I have pains all over my body and in my chest. I’m so scared.

I have been weaned off keppra

I have been weaned off keppra for the past 6 months and since 5 days ago have been completely off it.I didn't agree with the medication as many others due to feelings of anxiety. It's a big relief to be off it but for the past two days I have been feeling faint and very nauseous. Was wondering if anyone else had experienced nausea when coming off this tablet?

Re: keppra withdrawal

Hello

I'm currently withdrawing Keppra in order to start a family. I was taking 1000mg of Keppra and 500mg of Lamictal for about 3 years. I thought ut would be a good idea to only be on one medication and as Keppra had treated my seizures so well, I decided to drop the Lamictal.

When I was only on Keppra I expeienced grand mal seizures and because very tearful and exhausted. I gradually introduced the Lamicatal again and am now coming off the Keppra instead.

Now I take 200mg of Lamicatal and 400mg of Keppra (oral solution) per day. I only experience 1 absence seizure a month and find I'm feeling less tired - I don't need to sleep for 2 hours during the day anymore. I've very slowly withdrawn the Keppra by 250 mg every 8 weeks and feel better for it.

Hopefully, I'll be off the Keppra altogether and be able to start a family!

If anyone else has experience of Keppra and pregnancy, I'd be grateful to know.

Re: keppra withdrawal

Hi folks,

I've just joined the site and had a read through some of this post as I'm getting taken off Keppra next week.

I take Epilim Chrono 600mg twice a day and currently Keppra 500mg twice a day.

The reason I'm coming off the Keppra is because after changing neurologists they have figured out that i've been taking a bad reaction to it since i started taking it (roughly 2 years ago).

I'm so excited but scared at the same time because I don't want to have any more seizures. I now have an 8 week old daughter and I want to feel capable of looking after her on my own. I also don't want to lose my driving licence again after just getting it back, having gone 15 months without a seizure.

I'll let u guys know how I get on.

Cheers,
Ally
