Do I really need keppra?

Sat, 02/17/2018 - 11:08
I had brain surgery to clip a giant MCA aneurysm in june2015, during which I had more than one ischemic event. I went to intensive rehab to help my left side that was affects by the stroke. The following april( almost a year later) I had a gran meal seizure-I had been taken off any preventative seizure meds months earlier. I was prescribed500 mg keppra once per day, 4months later, I had another gran mal seizure. My keppra dose was increased to 500 mg twice a day. I had an EEG that was negative or”normal”, all CT’s and follow up angiograms were normal as well. My question is whether I should be taking keppra if they say I don’t have epilepsy.. I have brain damage from the surgery and stroke, but do I need the keppra? I have been having a lot of side effects. Fogginess, cognitive issues, short term memory issues, insomnia- this is what I think triggered the first seizure- I have not slept well since I had surgery and I’ve tried everything.. prescription meds for sleep, meditation, essential oils, a new mattress, chamomile tea, you name it. I wonder if it’s the keppra. I have asked for a sleep study as I do serif rhesurgeryhas caused a sleep disorder or maybe I’m having seizures during sleep? No doctor seems to take me serious and just blows me off because I seem healthy otherwise. I have lost my job and had to go on disability because I am just slower at doing most everything. I’m at my wits end and I don’t know how much longer I can be sleep deprived before I really lose it. My next step is to go to a new neurologist and see about switching seizure meds, IF I Even still Need it.
