just diagnosed - no driving :(
Wed, 12/08/2004 - 11:45Hello,
I was just diagnosed (the day before Thanksgiving) with Complex Partial Seizures at a follow-up appt after a trip to the ER last month.
The doc said "No driving" and I am crushed. I homeschool 2 children with their own set of unique medical needs.
Any tips on how to cope (in general and in not being able to drive) or any other insight you have gained from your experiences?
Although the strangeness of the seizures aren't new to me, the official diagnosis and changes in our lives certainly are.
I read some of the recent posts and it seems like there are a lot of compassionate, understanding folks on this list. I look forward to learning much from you.
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne:
The No Driving should only last until the sezures are under control. I am in NJ and my daughter has the same issue. However, once they are under control for a year she can drive again.Good Luck

I was diagnosed with complex partial and did not freak out but... when they said you can't drive I thought; "Oh, no this is impossible" Well, it is not impossible. I did not drive for four years and what I did was to get a person 1-2 hours a day where I ran my errands. This was a lot of help. I now drive and I use a NATURAL progesterone cream twice a day. I am not taking any meds just the progesterone. Check out "Catamenial Epilepsy". It took me 4 years to find out in my own as many neurologists just do not want to hear about this. I have researched for the last five years and believe I have to pass it along. Good luck!
