Epilepsy and adderall

Sun, 06/10/2018 - 03:09
So I have had epilepsy for 5 years and was prescribed lamictal. For the past year I have been taking lamictal AND topimax. Like many others I have been experience memory and speech issues from the lamictal and now that topimax has been introduced to the mix I have major concentration issues making school even worse for me. I haven't spoken to a doctor yet but I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I take lamictal 600xr and topimax 50mg. The lamictal was tough enough all through highschool but I learned to cope with it but the topimax really did me dirty. College is only getting harder. Is it possible to get a prescription of adderall or some variation to help?

Consult with your doctor soon about these negative effects of Lamictal and Topamax.  There are many other options for seizure control.

I just had the same conversation with my doctor. I’m sure each neurologist feels different. As Joe mentioned they could interact with your topamax and Lamictal.

Hi there, it's important to

Hi there, it's important to note here that a known risk of stimulant use is a lowered seizure threshold, so if other stimulants such as caffeine are a trigger for you, it might be better to play it safe. That said, when I told my neuro "I can't concentrate on these meds and I am **this** close to failing out of college," he said, "oh, yeah, sure, I can make you focus" and I've tried different versions of adderell and ritalin since.  So yes, you may be able to get a prescription, and it may be able to help, but it's specific to each person and your dr has to be on board. Best of luck!! :)
