YASMIN AND LAMICTAL

Tue, 12/04/2007 - 13:01
MY DAUGHTER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH EPILEPSY 11 YEARS AGO. SHE IS NOW TAKING LAMICTAL AND HAD BEEN SEIZURE FREE FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS. HOWEVER, SHE STARTED TAKING YASMIN(BIRTH CONTROL) A MONTH AGO AND HAS HAD TWO GRAND MAL SEIZURES. I CONTACTED THE PHAMACUTICAL COMPANY THAT DEVELOPED YASMIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY DOCUMENTATION STATING THAT YASMIN DIMINISHES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LAMICTAL. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE HAVING BREAKTHROUGH SEZIURES THAT IS TAKING LAMICTAL AND YASMIN. DENA

YASMIN AND LAMICTAL

I take Lamictal and YAZ birth control pills and have not had any problems, but I have read several different places that birth control pills can lower the effectiveness of the Lamictal. With most other anti-seizure drugs, it is the other way around - the anti-seizure drugs reduce the effectiveness of the birth control. How much the birth control pills reduce the effeciveness of the Lamictal, I don't know. I would talk to your neurologist and OBGYN.
