Weird Experience..please Help

Tue, 06/13/2006 - 21:43
I have recently been diagnosed with E after a VEEG. Since I had the test I had been seizure free for a month. I am on a New Medication called Lyrica 300mgs and kept on Tegretol 1200mgs. I usually get my Seizures when I have my period. And this is the time for them about to show up. Well today I was sitting down and I started to get tears in my eyes and I was really spacey. I felt like I was going to go black at any minute. My question is do you think this was a Possible Breakthru seizure that was stopped by my new medication. It really weirded me out. I felt like I was going to seize at any moment, but all I got was the felling of any minute going black out. I couldn't control the tearing up either. What do you think this was? Leah

Hi Leah, It sounds to me like you had an aura which is a simple partial seizure. An aura is like a "warning" that a bigger seizure may happen. Your medication may be stopping the bigger seizure from coming. Auras are still serious because they are seizures. I used to take Trileptal and my auras still progressed into a complex partial and sometimes into a grand mal. I was taken off Trileptal and put on Lamictal and Keppra. These two drugs have lessened the frequency of my auras and complex partials. I haven't had any grand mals since the change. Auras still have a big impact on my quality of life mainly because I can't drive because of the driving laws in my state. I am going to try the surgery route and am currently still under the pre-surgical evalution. I should know for sure shortly. I've had the Veeg, WADA, MRI, PET scan. I have to go back into the hospital soon for another Veeg to try and have another seizure there so they can do the Ictal Spect test before they will do the surgery. Well hopefully your new med combo will make things better for you. Good luck!

I agree with Missy, this sounds like a simple partial to me. Keep a log of these and bring them to your doctor's attention when you go in to have your medication evaluated.
