Kids with Epilepsy - treatments and costs
Thu, 07/09/2009 - 03:22Our 3 1/2 year old son was just diagnosed. Not only was that hard to accept, (he has other issues too), but then when I went to get the meds filled (lamictal) I was told the copay after insurance was $985/mo. We can't even pay our bills right now, not to mention adding $1000 to our monthly expenses!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried contacting the insurance co which said an appeal for this type of med does not have a good track record. I called GSK the manufacturers who said that because we have insurance, we only qualify for a discount card of UP to 30%. Wow!! $700/mo - really, not helping me here.
Tried Canada and was told the meds are different and not to use the online pharmacies as you never know where the stuff is coming from and what you might actually get.
I am also concerned about giving this drug to such a young boy. Side affects are really freaking me out.
HELP!! Anyone????
Thanks, concerned mom in California.
