I'm new - Still in Denial

Wed, 03/22/2006 - 13:19
I had my first (and hopefully only) seizure in December. It was a grand mal. I am 40 years old and am in pretty good shape. I try to live a healthy life and have 4 children ranging from 18 to 3 yrs old. I am also the wife of a military officer who is not home a lot given the world today. Needless to say I am always quite busy, but I really didn't feel stressed out. We are still working on finding the cause - Do they ever really know?? My biggest issue is driving. It has been almost 4 months now, but VA law is 6 months minimum. Since we are military, I am licensed in another state that does not have the 6 month minimum, but rather each case looked at individually. I still have my DL - Why are the laws so different between states, and which state's laws do I use to guide me? I enjoyed looking at everyone's stories. I guess I'm not alone.

Hi, Sometimes you never find out why you have such a disorder. You just have to be willing to accept it and go on and work around the hard issues of driving.... I personally dont drive, and never have because of my epilepsy. It can be hard. But it is always harder when you have driven before and now you have to adjust. The laws are just different in all the states???? You should do what is right in your heart. Think of the safety of your family, yourself, and others that are on the road. But do you have epilepsy? Was everything checked, blood sugar, sodium, magnesium, calcium, vit d, b complex, b 6, and iron. All can cause seizures. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Thank you Lisa - I'm assuming that all of the blood work was completed, but I will certainly ask about all of the one's you mentioned. My most recent MRI showed a "spot", but according to the neurologist could be a "glitch" in the way the computer reads it. She would like me to have another MRI in 6 months. That seems like a long time to wait to see if the spot is a glitch or something more serious. As of now, I have not been driving at all. I gave my keys to my friend so that I won't even be tempted. I think that the hardest part is that so many people rely on me to get them where they need to go and now I have to rely on others to transport my children and even get me to the Dr. and grocery store. Independence is something that I really took for granted. Thank you for you kind words and sound advice. Kimberly
