Bit of a question

My name is Cat. I'm from New Zealand and looking for some advice or knowledge or knowing if any child of a mother who took tegretol cr and epilim during pregnancy. I'm 25 years old, mother of 2 and I work full time. Mum suffers from complex partial seziures, has done since a very early age but nothing diagnosed until she was 21ish. After an array of different meds, she was put on just over 1500mg of both above drugs until she had me at around 30. I have bad eyesight, and through my teenage years suffered a bit of vertigo and light headedness. As of late, I have been quite ill with gastrointestinal problems but I'm more worried about my head, nearly every time I stand up from sitting down, I feel like I'm going to faint, the world starts to get blurry and my ears go, I end up grabbing on to something or sitting down quickly. I have bad headaches on the temples of my head almost daily. Is there any kids of mum's who have epilepsy that have any similar things going on? Starting to get worried, and no I don't blame my mother. S*** happens to all of us

Hi Cat, fellow Kiwi here :)  I can't remember where I saw it but there has been issues with 'Valporate syndrome" lawsuite going on globally, it's be known for decades about birth defects and assorted problems associated with mothers taken epilim during pregnancy but drug companies covered it up. Here of course, the ACC system makes the lawsuit thing difficult. There was something I read on Stuff recently about a women having a go at Medsafe and Pharmac about it but can't remember much more sorry. Perhaps if you make contact with your local ENZ educator (got to www.epilepsy.org.nz for contact details) they might be able to help you more. All the best.
