Am I having seizures? Please help!

Sat, 09/22/2018 - 21:42
I had an experience yesterday morning that was unusual, but not entirely new to me. Upon discussing it with my housemate, she suggested it sounded like a seizure. I did some research and discovered that there are multiple kinds of seizures that can all manifest pretty differently, and some of my symptoms seem consistent. It got me thinking about other weird experiences I've had, and I'm wondering if maybe I've had more seizures and just not known it. I'm hoping ya'll can help me make sense of this. Yesterday morning, a few minutes after getting up, I went to grab a glass of water and blacked out while walking back to my room. All I remember is walking, feeling weak for a second, and then "coming to" - I was collapsed against a wall and there was water and broken glass everywhere (I dropped my glass). I don't remember dropping my glass, tripping, or anything like that, but it's almost like I "came to" at the sound of the glass shattering, as if I blacked out before dropping it. Somehow, I remember the sound of the glass shattering, but don't have a visual memory, it's as if my vision went completely black. I think I was only out for a few seconds. I was very confused (and angry?) when I "woke up." A few months prior, I had a similar experience. I blacked out in the middle of a conversation with my boyfriend. I have zero recollection of what happened. I just remember him coming home from work, greeting him, and then waking up on the bed, completely disoriented, my partner standing over me. It felt like my brain was a computer that did a forced-reboot. Like it just powered off without any warning. My boyfriend said I was out for about two minutes. I didn't have any idea who he was for about a minute after waking up, and I was unable to move or communicate (I was trying though! I just felt paralyzed). I became kind of hysterical afterwards, and was sobbing uncontrollably. There have been several other instances where I don't lose consciousness, but I feel as though I've become suddenly very ill. Cold sweats, violent shivering, feeling disoriented, sudden nausea and abdominal/chest pain. I usually feel like I'm either going to throw up or have a bowel movement, sometimes I do. I've always been able to make it to the bathroom, but it's extremely difficult as it feels like my legs are about to give out. The room spins. The edges of my vision tend to go dark, and I sometimes see flashes of light when this happens. I have trouble focusing, it's almost like I'm looking through a kaleidoscope. I always end up collapsing and feel very "out of it," though I'm technically still conscious. This happens every single time I use cannabis products (so I don't smoke anymore), although it has happened a few times while sober as well. This feeling is terrifying, every time it happens I literally feel like I'm dying but I just have to wait it out. With this experience, I can sometimes feel it coming on, but only with a few seconds warning. I oftentimes feel numb in various parts of my body, and the numb feeling seems to migrate. Not sure if this is related though. Sometimes I spontaneously lose my balance too, I won't fall over/collapse, but I'll come close. Frankly, I haven't given much thought to these experiences until now, because I have a long history of mental illness, and I have transient, stress-related psychosis (I read that psychosis sometimes occurs alongside seizures though?). I also sleep very poorly. It's hard for me to prioritize my health, but these collapsing episodes have been happening more frequently. I had no idea seizures could be anything other than violent muscle spasm/convulsions, so I never considered it. I'm still not certain I'm having seizures, so any input from ya'll would be appreciated! If you experience similar things, I would love to hear your thoughts, likewise, if these occurrences *don't* sound like seizures, please let me know! Just FYI, I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for next week. I figure even if these aren't seizures, it's not normal to collapse spontaneously. Thanks in advance!
