Feeling seriously stressed out.....

Mon, 10/17/2011 - 16:04

Hi new to this fourm,

I do have epilepsy so I will say Thank You to anyone who helps me out and gives me information on my problem. So towards the end of September I was working at a night club with my boss I am a DJ and I was closing out the night it was a great night, before this happened I had been sezuire free for 8yrs on my meds. Continue my story I was packing up the night all the gears the lights were turnd on and the next thing i remember people were standing above me and I was sitting in an ER room and of course I had a Sezuire. It was not due to the lights in the night club I am always out in the nightlife with big huge lights and sound. And It was not due to drinking I do not drink, I have like one or two drinks when im out. My real question is for everyone my license I fear my state will take it away from me. If they take it away from me they will be taking away my life. I have a full time job that requires I have a Licenes and my djn I need one as well. And my girl and I just started dating shes been driving 35 minutes just to be with me I know she wont be doing that if the state does anything to my licenes. I really hate this can anybody give me some advice, i dont know what im going to do, what will i do, this is not fair people who have dui's only get there licenes taken away for a yr and still get theres back. I would really like some advice, im really stressed out about this.

First of all, NEVER EVER go to the Emergency room for a seizure if you know you are epileptic. They are required by law to report your seizure to the DMV. (at least in California)

Go through the seizure, it will eventually pass. (If it lasts longer than usual, then by all means go to the Emergency room) But, if it's a familiar type, there is no need to go. The  E.R. will just monitor your condition and pump you full of ativan. (And it's an expensive ride) As you can tell, I've been through this many times before.  Get someone to drive you home, if you're sick, and if you can try your best to take your pills, and sleep it off.

However, do be honest with your neurologist, and book an appointment ASAP to figure out what your trigger was that night. Could it have been stress induced?

I had my license suspended three times, in a 10 year span. It's a bitch to get back, but the point being is you can get it back if you're epileptic. You just need to be seizure free for 3 months, taking your medicine religiously, and on time. You walk into a room, with a tape recorder and they swear you in, and drop a few key words like "I wouldn't ever put my life, or someone elses life in jeopardy." And "My condition is not out of control." Have your doctor fill the form out,  giving his/her consent to drive and operate your vehicle, you wait 2 weeks and your license get's reinstated.

I freaked out when I had a seizure at work one time, and someone called the damn paramedics. The more I fought to leave me alone it will pass, the more they kept bugging me about going to the hospital. Turns out the ER doc tattle tailed on me, and sent a fax to the DMV, and I was soooo screwed. I needed my license, like you need yours to work. If you live in a city, you need a car to get around.

I feel your pain dude.

I had no control over the 911 call, the owner of the club called them. But I got a little lax on my meds and missed a couple when taken them. Since that night I have been taken them every night, and I could realize i couldve seriously hurt someone or my self in an accidnet I just hope the state doesnt revoke my License and realzie that I am healthy, I mean I really dont drink alot I dont smoke I eat healthy exercise when i can, I have a career a par time job a girl friends family great co-workers I just hope this one little episode dosent kill me in not getting my L's back this is really only causing my stress I set my alarm every time before I know when i go to sleep to take my meds like a ceartian time every night. unless a weekend then i will bring them with me. I dont know what else I could do.

I too had a job that required I drive and I absolutely loved it. Now I can't drive and haven't in over a year. I no longer work, and I'm not sure when I will be able too. Hoping to start doing some things from home to keep my sanity.   But what could be worse is that I be responsible for a horrific accident. I know it sucks, my life today is well, I'm not sure. I feel like I've almost lost everything in just 18 months with no clear picture ahead.

Several months after I stopped driving there was an accident in the area. Killed three, a mother and two of her little ones. The third child survived with critical injuries. Turns out the person who hit them had a seizure while driving, and it wasn't their first seizure either, but the first to involve an accident. That would suck more. Since then I never second guessed my ability to drive, I just won't.
