Complex Partial Seizures

Sat, 01/22/2011 - 11:11

My husband has had seizures all of his life, he is 56 years old; he had a right temporal lobe surgery in 2002. It did not stop seizures, but it changed them; even now they change. He mainly has them at night , he has fallen out of bed busted his head it usually takes about 5 minutes for him to start to come out but even then he has these tremors that last about 30 - 45 minutes; he never comes around enough to fully understand what has happened; he has absolutely no warning he can be in a dead sleep. He  is easily aggravated, no patience and struggles with depression. He currently takes Neurontin 300 mg. 4-3 x a day; Trileptal 300 mg. 1-2 x a day; Tegretol XR 400 1 - 2 x a day.

During the process of taking him off his medications for his Epilepsy Monitoring  before he had his Right Temporal Lobe Surgery that is when they diagnosed him with Complex Partial Seizues. In some aspects I wish he had not had the surgery; it ultimately did not stop the seizures; because the seizures changed to the point he has no patience and is aggravated easily; and he struggles with depression, it cause him problems on the job of 23 years to the point we finally along with his doctors applied and got him on Disability. He really is a good person, but his Family is afraid to even go out to dinner with him publicly because he may have a seizure, the men in his family who hunt & fish never include him in that, he can no longer drive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't take medicine that are prescribed to be taken 2 times a day, as if it was 2 that day and one today. Get real, ALWAYS take medicines exactly as prescribed each day not some days and not on others. They don't work that way, if you want them to work, take them as prescribed! Set up the next weeks medicines to be taken and he should to swallow them all. Hope he's not reducing his intake of some just to save money.
