Lamictal - Has it made seizure activity worse for anyone?

Sun, 05/15/2005 - 05:48
Hi everyone...I was wondering if anyone has had increased seizure activity from being on Lamictal (and/or trouble sleeping).  My 6-year old daughter is on 3 meds (phenobarb, trileptal, and lamictal) and it seems to me that when we try to increase her lamictal levels (we have done so in the past) she sleeps less and seizure activity increases.  Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing...

Yes- it did make my daughter's partial seizures worse after we raised the dose a little but she also had the same problem with Depakote so I think she is just particularly sensitive to the meds.

My daughter has just had another trial on Lamictal after having to discontinue it because of a rash. We restarted it at a very small dose and made it 2 weeks this time before the rash came back. A pity because it had some some good effects on her like more motivation and better concentration. She went back to playing her flute and writing while on it which was great.

Looks like we will be trying Keppra next.

I was on Dilantin and Lamictal at first, now just Lamictal.  My doctor started the Lamictal at 25mg per day, and it took four months before it reached an acceptable level, and I could be weaned off Dilantin.  I have heard that starting Lamictal on too high a dosage will trigger the rash.  I have also heard that once you get the rash, you can't go Lamictal again.

It can be that she is taking too many meds. for her body to handle right now. Im 34 and taking three meds. Dilantin , lamictal and Keppra , dr's are slowly taking me off Dilantin because it's not working anymore by itself. But me taking three diffrent medications causes for me to feel more lite headed , dizzy , headaches and at times can't sleep. I feel like am taking caffeine pills..Try to get her dr. to lower the dosage or take her off the one pill that is less effective
