Keppra mood swings and medications

Fri, 07/19/2019 - 10:31
Hi all. I have been on the contraceptive implant since 2011 and have not had a seizure since. However over the years I have had bad mood swings and have been agitated and aggressive and anxious to name a few before I start my period and at the end of my period and my partner dreads this. I believe it is side effects from keppra. My doctor has suggested I start ssri setraline to increase serotonin levels but we believe it may interfere with keppra. Epilepsy nurses can't speak to me as I'm not under a neurologist anymore. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and can offer any advice. Many thanks, Joanne.

Hi Joanne. My husband had a seizure first time in Sept this yr. He's on keppra. And I'm calling his doc tomorrow. Side effects include anger, acting aggressive, dangerous impulses. He's gotten so mad at me while driving, first time for putting my blinker on too soon, second time for being too cautious on my brakes in rush he in cities at a stop light. First time he covered my mouth and eyes while driving, second time going 70 he turned off my car and shifted it into super and threatened to smash me in the face of I didnt shut up. This is not typical behavior for him, we have a good relationship. I hate these pills and this disease that has changed my sweet husband, but now I'm scared of him... He's 62, never had a seizure. He rolled his car at 24 and got a brain injury that supposedly caused this seizure some almost 40 yrs later. I'm exhausted trying to hold it all together. I hope they find better meds for him. From what I've been reading they so suck: (
