increasing tegretol

Sun, 12/11/2005 - 21:46
Happy Holidays!I have been diagnosed with epilepsy for almost nine years. Currently I am under Tegretol 400mg per day. The doctor suggested me to take 600mg. Usually, I am taking 400mg because I don't want to have more side effect. If I couldn't sleep very well then on the second day I would take 600mg. I had seizures every four or five months last year under 400 mg Tegretol. Most recently, the frequency of the seizure has been increasing which is once a month. I am afraid keeping increasing medication or adding more medication wouldn't be a good idea, what would be your suggestion?

Hi Lovelycat I would suggest that you go by what you doctor says. Usually doctors know what is best for you. I know that your seizures might be increasing but hang in there. That is all I can do right now. I hope you are sleeping well now. Take care of your self. From Winnie

I would do what your doctor said. I was taking 400mg of Tegretol XR. Now I take 800. According to my neuro, if you tolerated it well to begin with, there is less chance for side effects from increasing the dosage.
