Undiagnosed for 40 years!

Sun, 10/01/2017 - 18:49
My seizures started (first noticed) when I was 3yr. old. They were Complex/Partial. MRI's and EEGs showed nothing. So growing up I spent a lot of time with Psychologists, who said I needed counseling. I was 'diagnosed' as "Organic Mental Disorder" "Affective Disorder" "Conversion Disorder" and "Hysteric Neurosis" Granted....MRI's and EEGs showed nothing. It took 40 yrs. and a ton of time, accusations and money to finally get a proper diagnosis of Epilepsy. I was put into a mental health lock-up unit in an insane asylum when I was twelve and put into a straight jacket twice because I didn't comply with the orders of staff while having one of those seizures. I was also arrested once, in my own home. I was having a seizure my 4 year old stayed with me while my 3 year old called 911. When the officer came to our home, again...I didn't comply. I was thrown to the floor and arrested in front of my babies. I contacted the police when I got out of the hospital and told the officers supervisor what happened and that my children will never call 911 again, because of his actions. The officer came back to my house, apologized and gave the kids stuffed animals. It was a horrible, horrible life fighting for myself while I was being condemned for faking it. I have since sent videos of myself having G.M. seizures in the hospital to all of the 'Doctors' who said I was "making them up" because I was neurotic.

Sorry to see what you went

Sorry to see what you went thru. What they might have thought is a seizure disorder you can read about. PNES Their seizures look like epileptic seizures but are not. They are psychogenic but you are not psycho. The neurologists you saw need to be questioned.  I had over 20 different EEG's that all came back normal. They saw nothing on them. It was about the 25th EEG I was given that showed spikes or waves aka abnormalities or seizure activity. The test done in the 1960's that the MRI took the place of showed scar tissue in the left lobes of my brain. Even back then all a person had to do was have 2 seizures that were seen and they were diagnosed as epileptic.
