Sat, 02/17/2007 - 23:01
Side effects of trileptal at bedtime for Benign Rolandic Epilepsy My daughter was just put on trileptal at bedtime after suffering 6 seizure this past month. Her first episode was in august and she was free until this past month. Anyone with side effect to this drug? She seems to experience extreme moodiness in the morning.

I had low sodium issues from trileptal and I finally had to get off of it. I was on it for I guess four years. For if your sodium gets too low it will cause a seizure. I drank gatorade for that would bring up my sodium level or eat something salty. http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_trileptal_serious.html It is called Hyponatremia. That really is the only problem I had. take care Lisa http://www.sleep-safe.co.uk/id90.htm http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach1/

Lisa, I've been on Trileptal since mid-October. For once, I forgot to check the side effects, simply because I was being evaluated for sugery and got overly busy going back and forth to Seattle for that process. When they did my pre-op bloodwork in mid-December, I wasn't called back that anything was wrong. But when I went over the following week for the actual surgery, I was put on sodium so fast it wasn't even funny. I also was put on sodium pills for almost three weeks AFTER the surgery. My local neuro redrew my blood four weeks after the surgery, and it was one or two points below the recommended level. I do know that on a couple of occasions after the surgery, I had double or triple vision, loss of balance, loss of equilibrium, and was near fainting. In the first instance, about a week and a half after surgery, if I hadn't been near a chair and sat down quickly, I would have had a sudden and very HARD contact with the floor. As it was, I had to hold on to my kitchen table for about 5 minutes until the dizziness past. After the second incident, two weeks ago today, I called my neuro and went in to see him the next day. He then lowered my trileptal by 300 mg/day. Since that reduction in meds, there have been no more "dizzies," my seizures have still held (Day 55 of no seizures, also due to the surgery's effectiveness!), and I've felt much better. Mari

Mari I didnt want to deal with the side effects from the sodium either. I was afraid I would blow up like a balloon. For anytime I have too much sodium everthing is swollen. I just decided to go off of it. Congrats on the no seizures. I wish more no seizures take care Lisa http://www.sleep-safe.co.uk/id90.htm http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach1/
