Skipping school because of seizures

Thu, 04/04/2019 - 07:33
I’m a 17 year old in high school and I’ve been recently, for the past 2 months, been dealing with guilt because I skip school a lot because of my seizures. I used to have seizures where without knowing I would collapse, bruise myself, hit my head on hard things etc., but now, with my medication I only space out, can’t talk or hear for a bit, my head hurts and the left side of my body starts having seizure like twitches. I feel very nauseous afterwards and tend to take meds to calm my twitching muscles and then I get sleepy. This is why I miss a lot of school, because I just can’t get out of bed the next day or my body is in so much pain I can’t stand up. I really want to know if someone else is in the same situation, where they have skipped school a lot. Have a nive day.

Hi there, There's no need for you to feelguilty about skipping school. Its really tough getting motivated to go toschool when you've got a lot going on.   If your meds relieve your nausea butmake you sleepy it could be the tiredness is a side effect. Perhaps yourneurologist might be able to give you another medication to help you feel morealert.  Finding a good combination of drugs to treat epilepsy is nevereasy. Even though things are stilldifficult for you, it seems like they are better than they were before. So hangin there, you should feel very proud of yourself for dealing with all this issuch a mature way.  All the best
