Has seizures but don’t know how to tell mom

Wed, 11/14/2018 - 21:44
So over the summer I noticed my eyes on occasion “fluder” uncontrollably. I don’t think anything of it until i had an incident at night where half of my body was shaken and stuff. I mentioned to my mom that I think I’m epileptic but she brushed it off. Which is fine considering my my episodes don’t effect me much. Until today when I was trying to crack my back on the edge of my bed and my whole body went limp. I slid onto the floor and laid there till I could lift myself up. I don’t know what to do, I know my mom won’t take me seriously. Should I wait until i go for a checkup and tell my doctor?

I'd say schedule a visit with

I'd say schedule a visit with your doctor as soon as possible.  It sounds like you may be having seizures, but you may want to avoid making the self-diagnosis "epileptic" (especially to your mom) as seizures can happen to people who do not have epilepsy.  Keep good track of all the events and when they first started happening.  This will be valuable info to any doctor.  Maybe mom thinks your "epileptic" diagnosis is silly, but on the other hand there is a good chance that the thought of a chronic illness is too mind boggling for her.  Be patient with mom, take good care of yourself, and let the doctor make the diagnosis.

Hey there, when I was like,

Hey there, when I was like, 13 or so, I self-diagnosed my weird headache body symptoms as migraines and my doctor just kind of agreed, so I didn't bother to see a neurologist... until a few years later when I was 18 and had a grand Mal seizure. If your brain and body are doing things you don't want them to, it's a sign to ask a professional for help figuring out what's wrong. It might be nothing, or it might be epilepsy, or it might be something else entirely--but you can't figure that out yourself. Talk to your mom about speaking to a doctor, don't wait to see if something worse will happen. Good luck!B
