Graduation tonight and he had a seizure.

Wed, 05/29/2019 - 03:09
My son started having seizures 2 years ago just after his 16th birthday. The doctors tell us it's cortical dysplasia. Tonight was his high school graduation and before he could walk across the stage he had a seizure followed by a severe headache and vomiting. I don't know what to do. It's 3 am and I'm so upset I can't sleep.

Thanks for writing in... When

Thanks for writing in... When your child has seizures, it's scary especially when it's not clear what's causing it. Cortical dysplasia is a term that describes the cause of the seizures. It's like scarring in an area of the brain that happens when the brain develops. When a cause like this is found, it's important to see an epilepsy specialist. If medicines don't work, surgery may help control seizures in someone with cortical dysplasia. Regardless of the cause, coping with epilepsy and learning about it is where it's at for you and your family now. Please call our 24/7 line and connect with one of our local EF offices. https://www.epilepsy.com/affiliates https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/refractory-epilepsy-difficult-treat-seizures/comprehensive-epilepsy-centerBest wishes and hang in there! Hey, I’m Maddie. I’m a senior

Hey, I’m Maddie. I’m a senior like your son. I’m so sorry to hear about what happened. Remember to check in on your son to make sure he’s ok too... sometimes boys bottle up their feelings. I’m sorry you’re upset :( it would be hard not to be upset after something like that. I'm not a parent so I don't really know what to say to help you, but  make sure your son's emotionally ok. It's really hard to not have control of your body.
