Recently Diagnosed and Looking for Similarities

Sun, 03/13/2005 - 10:38
I was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, manifesting itself as simple partial seizures in my temporal lobe. Before I new what was causing my symptoms, namely intense deja vu, panic, and twitching, they were very frightening and draining. Since I am now aware that I am not having psychic visions or losing my mind, but having sizures, the symptoms seem less intense. Also, I had two rather large seizures last week, and have been in sort of a foggy haze since then. I tend to be more forgetful, space out, and my vision is also either dull or hyperrealistic. I've been seeing a lot of spots too. Every day seems as if I had been drinking heavily or using drugs the night before. Has anyone else shared these experiences?

aaron, they just diagnosed me with left temporal lobe simple partial seizures this week. so glad to know that I was not going crazy! Put me on Trileptal, and it is giving me massive headache (doc says it will for 2 weeks, ugh. Worst headache of my life!)I feel half drunk all of the time, but happy (nearly giddy) because the storm in my head has slowed down on the meds. My seizures were little ones, constant, not "rather big" like yours, but they did drain me and it's funny, I am tired and foggy on the Trileptal, but it is a different kind of tired than the seizure activity gave me. I have MRI today to rule out any other causes of the seizures - scared today! Hope all is well for you ( and me, too). Email me if you like and we can compare left temporal lobes! ha ha I can be reached at jolie_staten@msn.com

Welcome Aaron - I understand that you have been just recently diagnosed with TLE (Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.) I too have TLE and I have learned a lot from this site! I have had TLE for 10 years and the only words of "wisdom" that I would like to pass on to you are these: Sign up for "daily up-dates" of this site on your computer. This site is a relative/interactive information center and support system, and most importantly contribute your thoughts and feelings (we all learn from this.) The other thing that I would recommend is that you start keeping a Daily Journal of your thoughts, emotions and seizure activity. Memory absences are a part of TLE and you can learn a lot from what you write down (ex: what can cause a seizure. i.e. stresses, lack of sleep, alcohol, etc. etc.) A Daily Journal is an investment in YOUR own future.Good luck, and we're all behind you! - Christine

If I were you I would see my doctor immediately as your symtoms reflect not only epilepsy but could also be linked to a more serious health issue such as a tumour.
