pediatrician or neuro??

Sun, 01/09/2005 - 12:54
i was recently told by a pediatrician that i was epileptic and have had 3 seizures, 1 complex and 2 simple partials.I saw a neurologist today for the first time and he said that i don't have epilepsy but also said that he didn't really think it was anything. I don't understand how losing consciousness for minutes at a time could be nothing. I know that something is wrong with me and so do the people who have witnessed my episodes.I also don't sleep well due to them and have some other problems. If the pediatrician put me in hospital for a week each time he must have thought it was serious. I don't feel that the neuro is taking it seriously. I need something done about it because i am due to get my L's soon and it is affecting my life.I don't know whether to listen to the pediatrician who seems to know more or listen to the neuro. He wants to wait and see but i think we have seen enough. What do others think? Thanks in advance for responding.

Did the neurologist do an eeg? Just curious... If you are not confident in the neurologist that you are seeing, you should talk to your pediatrician about going to a different one. A second opinion is always a good thing! - AmyQ

I agree w/ AmyQ. A second opinion (especially in your situation) is a very good idea and it sounds like your pedi. would be a good source.

Don't be afraid to ask questions of your doctors, either. Do some research and be armed with information. Be your own best advocate!  Good luck.

Well, like everyone else has said, get a 2nd opinion.  You may want to try and figure out if there are any teaching hospitals or epilepsy clinics in your area.
