Office and seizures

Sun, 03/03/2019 - 10:12
I'm new, I've had epylepsy for about 10 years now. I have temporal lobe epilepsy with partial seizures. I've worked in an office processing data for 4 years and literally stair at a computer all day. The only time I'm not is during break and lunch. I didnt have any issues at first, but lately I've been having, for lack of a better term, episodes. I've had one seizure at work and other times I feel like ones coming. Does anyone know or have thoughts if this due to the computer screens? I have the blue light filter on. But I dont know what else could be causing it.

Have your medication levels

Have your medication levels been checked recently? Maybe something is interacting with your meds? Maybe it's just time to adjust your meds? Age/hormones/other lifestyle issues can impact your seizure thresholds.

I've had focal (partial)

Submitted by jonsongs on Sun, 2019-03-03 - 13:49
I've had focal (partial) temporal lobe epilepsy for many years and I'm not sure what triggers them, although I have my suspicions that include computer screens, flourescent office lighting, and well as many other things. I also believe that sometimes they may just happen for no reason and may be unavoidable. My doctor says the two most obvious causes are skipping medications and lack of sleep. If I have to spend a lot of time on a computer I sit back 2 feet or more from the screen, enlarge the text, and make sure the room is well lit with as much natural lighting as possible. I try to avoid staring directly at the screen for too long and remember to scan my eyes away from it from time to time. If there are overhead flourescent lights I try to get them switched to LED replacement bulbs, but that may be hard to get your office to do. Some people think it helps to have a regular (incandescent) desk lamp on at their desk. Don't forget to get up and take breaks and get some fresh air whenever you can.Amy had some great suggestions too, and don't feel shy to ask your doctor to review your meds because things can change. Office environments can be difficult for people with seizures, I doubt I could do what you do. I hope you find answers and do well.
