JAE---Anyone have this??

Thu, 01/20/2005 - 19:45

Hi guys~~

Anyone out there have JAE or Juvenile Absence Epilepsy??  Similiar to JME.

IT comes with Absence that may or may not be photic triggered, and Primary Generlized TCs.

IT develops in the late adolexscence to early adulthood (early 20s usually), and persists for the rest of your life.

Responds ONLY to Depakote drugs.  Tegretols and Dilantins will cause an unfavorable outcome.

Can be hard to control if not caught as it starts.  Usually well controlled syndrome.

Mine is stubborn.  The TCs and the Absneces both are devils.

Have had this whole life, adn no one knew what was going on.

My daughter may have this or JME trying to get to the bottom of it. EEG consultant said she had idiopathic generalised epilepsy and was photosensitive. Our latest Consultant(new Country) says she has JME ...I'm not sure. She has had rapid eyelid flutter in strong sunlight(split second) for 2.5 years. Last year she said sometimes she had a jump feeling again very short. NO tonic -clonics( but had four of these when she was 4.5 years old). How do you tell all these apart?Epilim didnt help...low dose but lots of extra weight so changing to Lamotrigine...she has had a few jerks much worse than anything she had before and is also very forgetful now.How did you get the JAE diagnosis?
